Plums, plums, plums.
I'm keeping the dream of opening a cafe alive as I test out every possible concoction of flour, sugar, and fruit. This plum tart was delicious and surprisingly not terribly sinful. The sweetness of the plum itself required no added sugary support, how's that for baking tip for all you health-conscious people out there (me included).
I've been keeping myself to a pretty strict regime of healthy eating and exercise ever since I returned from my month of the road with endless sitting and fast-food-eating. It's been going well, however my love for baking and desire to be just like Julia Child makes this slightly difficult (Julia never lets me go easy on the butter). So you have to find that happy medium--deprivation is not an option for me. I suppose half the joy of cooking/ baking is watching people satisfied and (sometimes) fan-girl over your creations, that's motivation enough to continue to make hearty meals even if I can't fully enjoy them myself (damn you guilt and love handles!). I totally know you can make healthy and delicious things, but let's be real there's nothing better than homemade fried pickles, bottomless gingerbread waffles, and peach cobbler with a dollop of fresh cream...
....I'm going to the gym.
